The SPECTRUM organization made a decision not to compete with commercial Tea Tree Oil operations marketing plantation style oil.

Now, dissatisfied consumers and Health Authorities are aware of contaminated or poor quality oil have made their judgment, insisting branded ‘therapeutic’ grade oil meet international standards and true to its Australian botanical species origin.

Further, those marketing under the ‘organic’ or ‘chemical free’ banner, not produced in its original place of discovery, have also failed to totally satisfy ‘niche’ market buyers.

INTRODUCTION – The objective in the establishment of the SPECTRUM group of companies was to create ‘value added’ products using valuable resources unique to the Northern Rivers of NSW, AUSTRALIA, namely:-

1. TEA TREE OIL - harvesting and distilled in its natural environment from the native Australian botanical species Melaleuca alternifolia.

2. EDUCATION & RESEARCH – Southern Cross University including ‘Natural & Complementary Medicine’ and ‘Center for Phytochemistry’ plant research.

3 LOCATION of manufacturing facility situated in close proximity to raw material supply, scientific analysis and vital information for research and development.

HISTORIC BACKGROUND – ‘AN INDUSTRY IS BORN’ – SPECTRUM’S ROLE IN THERAPEUTIC MANUFACTURE & ORGANIC TEA TREE OIL –

One single product, ‘Tea Tree Oil’ alerted early European settlers who pioneered the far north coast of NSW and became aware of this miracle antiseptic when they observed native aboriginals using crushed leaves applied to wounds, insect bites and skin disorders.

In the early 1900’s more sophisticated European methods of extraction commenced by the use of steam distillation, allowing the oil to be bottled for distribution to other areas.

World demand quickly evolved and a new industry was born. However, supply was limited as this unique species only grew in wetland areas in this harsh environment called the ‘Bungawalbyn Valley Basin’. Whilst similar botanical species grew in other locations, none could be compared with or provide the multi purpose anti microbial and anti fungal activity produced from the now identified botanical species Melaleuca alternifolia.

Now after 100 years of competing with synthetic antiseptics and anti fungal medication, tea tree oil has out performed and maintained its identity as the safest, natural and affordable product available for mankind.

Attempts to grow the species outside the ‘Bungawalbyn Valley Basin’ cannot reproduce the overall ecological chemistry. This includes, temperature, native companion trees and grass that influence mulch nutrition, soil types, climatic conditions, vital trace elements and minerals contained in the overall wetland system, rendering it virtually impossible to duplicate.

Following this ‘Miracle in a Bottle’ discovery, people involved in ‘Complementary Medicine’, herbalists and those with scientific agricultural qualifications were required for educational, analytic and research divisions to ensure the success of this new and exciting industry.

SPECTRUM HERBAL PRODUCTS PTY LTD ‘THERAPEUTIC MANUFACTURING DIVISION’ – Licensed under the Australian Commonwealth Government Health Department, this division holds a license to manufacture ‘Therapeutic Goods’ under the TGA Code of GMP, License No. 4061. The company also holds dual ‘Organic’ accreditation with both NASAA and BFA for the processing and packaging of Tea Tree Oil products.
